It’s easy to fear what we know we are called to do. It can all seem way too large, daunting, and intimidating. Why do you think that, at times, we are tempted to fear what we are called to do?
For differing motivations of the heart, each human can fear what they are called to do. We are each made differently, and none of us perceive or desire things for the exact purpose as another. Yet fear is not faith. Fear is not of God.
Is there something about what you are called to do, and how you are called to create, that makes your stomach churn? What is it about your calling, that you don’t feel equipped to do yet? Are you searching for perfection?
Perhaps you care too much about what others might think of your performances. Maybe every stroke on the canvas, tune on the guitar, word on the page or flash of a camera runs through a stream of criticism in your mind, before thankfulness in your heart. When we are given a call on our lives, at times it will be greater than what we can accomplish on our own. In fact, that is the truth most of the time. We will usually be called to do things, that we could never do in our own strength. When we see that what we are called to do is more than we can handle on our own, let us remember, “My power and my strength come from the Lord , and he has saved me” (Psalms 118:14 CEV). May we be compelled to access the power of God.
I have walked through multiple seasons of life when I feared what I was stepping into, even if I knew it was God’s call for me. He called me to quit things I wasn’t ready to leave behind. He allowed for me to be rejected by man, fired from jobs, all for the glory of His name.
It was tempting to sit in defeat.
But instead of keeping my eyes on the circumstance at hand, I looked to the future. I knew God was cultivating something new in me. He was not even close to being done with me! I was compelled to create, watch and see what he was doing. I knew there was more to come.
When did you find this gift of creating that you have? What is your relationship with this personal expression of God? The way you create is unique to you. It is a purposeful gift that nobody in this world can attain, in the image that you attain it.
It is time for us to stop fearing what this call is, or is “supposed” to look like. God will guide us, may you and I both step into our individual calls to create.
